Is entry really only by guided tour?
Yes. The museum can only be visited on a guided tour of about 60 minutes. We secure your place so you don't have to queue.
Will my tour be in English?
Yes — we book you onto an English-language departure. These are limited each day, which is why booking ahead matters.
How do I receive my booking?
You'll get an email confirmation after checkout. We arrange the admission with the museum on your behalf.
Can young children visit?
Children under 6 are not admitted, and the museum is not recommended under 12. Children aged 6–12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Can I get a refund?
All sales are final, except where the museum is unable to provide the admission you booked, in which case you are refunded in full.
Are you the official museum?
No. We are an independent booking service that arranges your admission. The museum is operated independently.
What will I actually see inside the Hospital in the Rock?
The tour leads you through the preserved wards, operating theatres and bunker rooms of a real wartime hospital and Cold War nuclear shelter, spread across roughly 2,400 square metres of caves beneath Buda Castle. Scenes are recreated with around 200 lifelike wax figures — doctors, nurses and patients — alongside original medical equipment, the bunker's ventilation and generators, and exhibits on the atomic age. It is vivid, atmospheric and moving, and quite different from a conventional museum.
How long does the tour take?
The guided tour lasts about one hour. Entry is by guided tour only, so please arrive a little before your departure time. We secure your place on a specific tour so you can go straight in.
How old is the museum, and is it historically genuine?
The site is entirely genuine: it was built as a secret emergency hospital between 1939 and 1944, used during the Second World War and the 1956 revolution, then converted into a Cold War nuclear bunker and kept classified for decades. It opened to the public as a museum in 2007 and has welcomed over a million visitors since, and is today one of Budapest's most acclaimed museums.
Where is it and how do I get there?
The Hospital in the Rock is at Lovas út 4/c on Buda Castle Hill, in Budapest's UNESCO-listed Buda Castle Quarter. It is a short walk from Matthias Church, the Fisherman's Bastion and the top of the Buda Castle funicular, so it combines easily with the other castle-hill sights on foot.
